NEW YORK – From August 9-16, 2010, the World Youth Parliament (WYP) will take place at the St. Jonh’s University and the UN Headquarters in New York City. The WYP is a global forum of dialogue formed by youth from different cultures and beliefs who have been developing a “Magna Carta of Values for a New Civilization.” The main event of the WYP will take place on August 13, at the UN Headquarters, where 200 youth will officially present their draft of the Magna Carta from their particular country, which is one of 20 member nations in North or South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
The organizers of the event include: the Idente Youth International, the Fernando Rielo Foundation, The Center for Global Development at St. John’s University, the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Ecuador), Unicaritas - Rome, Italy; and the Idente Foundation of Studies and Research.
In 1991, the World Youth Parliament was founded by the Spanish philosopher Fernando Rielo, who is also the founder of the Idente Youth organization and the Institute of Id of Christ Redeemer, Missionaries and Idente Missionaries. The ultimate goal of the WYP is that all youth, without distinction, research and analyze those themes that concern them, and that their conclusions and proposals are heard on a global level by all political, social and religious establishments. In addition, their aim is that by overcoming ideological prejudices and cultural barriers, they will stimulate unity and peace in their communities.
In the Magna Carta of Values, the youth express those values that they are trying to defend in order to promote good and justice before the current problems that face our society including, but not limited to: war, the multiple attacks against human life, hunger, inequality, unemployment, the environment. Therefore, the document proposes principles, agreed on by the most diverse group of youth, and the promise to live by these principles in all areas representative of the human experience: interpersonal relationships, family, politics, the economy, the environment, education, and networks of communication.
The aspiration of WYP members is that this document serves as a basis for future drafts of constitutional letters of any country.
On August 13, there will be a formal session presided by the Cardinal of New York, S.E. Edward Egan; The Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN, Monsignor Francis A. Chullikatt; the Ecuadorian Ambassador to the UN, Francisco Carrión; the President of the
Institute of Idente Missionaries and of the Idente Youth International, Dr. Jesús Fernández Hernández; the Director of the Center for Global Development at St. John’s University, Dr. Annalisa Saccá; the Rector-Chancellor of the Universiad Técnica Particular de Loja, Dr. José Barbosa Corbacho; and the Representative of Unicaritas-Rome, Dr. Riccardo Colasanti.
